![]() ![]() Also, the question isn’t whether a creature can see you when you’re hiding. The DM decides when circumstances are appropriate for hiding. This makes the most sense to me, allowing individuals to stealth at any time diminishes the abilities and feats that exist, why take them if you can just stealth whenever?įinally, keep in mind is the errata to the PHB: Note that to an enemy that is blind, you are obscured regardless of light level. In order to hide you must be heavily obscured, unless you have a racial ability, class ability, or feat that says otherwise. ![]() So if it's your standard 20x20 room filled with cultists just kind of wandering around, with torches lighting up all the walls. Light & visibility play a part into it as well (as per page 183) ![]() This becomes a bit more wishy-washy because there are a lot of factors - how bright is the room? are there things that he could hide behind? What speed is he moving at (he has to be at slow speed to even stealth unless certain classes) So the question becomes, can he be seen as he walks through the room. Since the cloak does not grant invisibility, then that one is ruled out. An invisible creature can’t be seen, so it can always try to hide You can’t hide from a creature that can see you. This is doubled down on in page 177 of the PHB. So from this, you can take that you need some type of cover in order to even attempt to hide. If you look at the entries for Elf (Mask of the Wild), Halfling (Naturally Stealthy), they have abilities that allow them to stealth if they are only lightly obscured, Rangers get the ability at level 10 Hide in Plain Sight. TL DR: Cloak of Elvenkind doesn't give you invisibility, so you likely cannot just walk through a room, but you need to consider other factors. ![]()
